His father, Tito Martínez, worked as a truck driver while his mother, Lysaurie Ocasio, was a retired schoolteacher. Growing up, Bad Bunny was exposed to various music genres such as salsa, merengue, and pop ballads, which were frequently played by his parents. He has two younger brothers, Bernie and Bysael, and he preferred to spend time at home with his family rather than being on the streets.

Bad Bunny began singing in his church choir at a young age until he was 13 years old, and afterward, he became interested in listening to artists he heard on the radio, particularly Daddy Yankee and Héctor Lavoe. His stage name was inspired by a time when he was forced to wear a bunny costume and was angry about it.

Bad Bunny’s musical style is mainly defined as Latin trap and reggaeton, though his music also features other elements from different genres. He became well-known in 2016 after releasing his song “Diles,” which led to a deal with Hear This Music.
